NBA 2K12 Release Date October 4

2K announced a new game mode for NBA 2K12, NBA's Greatest, which allows players to control some of the best basketball players the world has ever seen. Fans can relive 15 historic games that showcase some of the sport's best.

Last year, 2K Sports brought Air Jordan back to video games. So how do you top that? By bringing all his friends, rivals, and predecessors to the game, too.

Classic players announced for NBA 2K12 so far are: Michael Jordan, Larry Bird, Magic Johnson, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, and Julius "Dr. J" Erving, plus 10 other legends to be announced in the coming weeks. The historic games feature the entire team rosters, accurate stadiums, and are presented to look like TV broadcasts from their respective era.

To add icing to the cake, the legends teams in NBA 2K12 can be unlocked and played in game against contemporary lineups. Kobe vs. Kareem. Dr. J vs. KG. Jordan vs. Lebron.

"There's the age old debate how players and teams from today would compare with teams of yesterday," said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. "We want to settle that debate."

2K Sports also wants to hear from fans. The games in NBA 2K12 aren't fully finalized for NBA's Greatest. So which single game encapsulates Larry Bird's career? Or Dr. J's? Also, 2K Sports announced Move support for the newest version of its basketball franchise, NBA 2K12.

The goal is to have players of any skill level have the ability to pick up the controls and play NBA 2K12. By targeting players onscreen and pressing the appropriate button, it's possible pass and shoot on offense, as well as block and steal using the Move controller. 2K Sports is promising more surprises regarding NBA 2K12, but didn't mention any specifics.

For some reason Kobe Bryant then came out on stage to show off how easy it was to use the PlayStation Move with NBA 2K12. "This is crazy," said Bryant.

2K Sports also introduced the complete music soundtrack for NBA 2K12. This year's cross-genre soundtrack in NBA 2K12 highlights both popular megastars and up-and-coming bands, with music from Eminem & Royce Da 5'9", Travis Barker, Busta Rhymes, Lil Jon, Twista, Cee-Lo, Q-Tip and more.

The vast collection of 28 tracks includes original and remixes created specifically for NBA 2K12, including Freddie Gibbs' "Look Easy," the Duck Down All-Stars 2 featuring Skyzoo, Pharoahe Monch & Smif N Wessun's "Shout The Winners Out," CyHi Da Prynce's "Sideways (2K Remix)," and Alex K. and D.J.I.G.'s "Now's My Time."

Alex K. and D.J.I.G. are the winners of the Duck Down contest who, with the help of hardcore fans, were chosen from thousands of competing producers and MCs to collaborate on an original track to be featured in NBA 2K12.

Featuring NBA Hall-of-Famers Michael Jordan, Magic Johnson and Larry Bird as this year's cover athletes for NBA 2K12, along with new modes and enhanced gameplay, NBA 2K12 reinforces the franchise's commitment to quality by combining the best of simulation basketball with an unforgettable sports game soundtrack.

"Music has always been an integral part of our NBA 2K video games, as it further immerses players into the world of basketball and enhances their gaming experience," said Jason Argent, vice president of marketing for 2K Sports. NBA 2K12 can now be pre-ordered from leading video game retailers nationwide, and will be available October 4, 2011, for the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 2 computer entertainment systems, Xbox 360 video game and entertainment system from Microsoft, Wii system, PSP (PlayStation Portable) system and Windows PC.
