Using Twitter For Your Business
The power of social media tools and social networking sites to promote a business is an ever-growing phenomenon. From building customer relationships to driving traffic to websites, businesses use these tools to advance name recognition, add value and find new clients. Twitter, one of the newest social networking tools, is well-suited to these purposes.
Set up a Twitter account for business purposes only. Create a username that is recognizable, either incorporating your company name or a catchy industry term. Fill out your profile completely and upload an avatar, and then start tweeting. Selectively follow other Twitter users, retweet relevant posts and you will soon grow a solid base of followers.
Have a clear strategy. Use your followers as a pseudo focus group when considering launching new products or services, or have it be an extension of your customer service strategy by answering questions and complaints.
Build promotional efforts. As you develop relationships with other people on Twitter, ask them to help you promote your business. In return, be ready to help them promote their business when the time comes.
Take advantage of some of the applications available such as Twithawk (formerly known as Twitter Hawk), a target-marketing engine that helps to locate "tweets" on a specific topic or in a particular location. Twitpic, an application that lets users share photos, can be particularly useful in business to give prospective clients or buyers a visual of your product (s). Twitterfeed is yet another application that automatically "tweets" status published on the user's blog.
Tweet news and promotions on your Twitter account's newsfeed. Promote deals or valuable information to your customers by posting the information in your Twitter status update. While an individual tweet is limited to 140 characters, you can reach all of your followers with a succinct message about a promotional offer.
Besides sending your followers to links that will earn you money, send them links to articles or sites online that you find interesting, relevant, or funny. This will get your followers interested in you as a person, and will make it more likely for them to follow links to your personal products when you post them.
Do not overtly sell products or services on Twitter. Provide the attributes of a product or service and refer the followers to the company website for more information. Never use Twitter to send out SPAM.
Thanks to its social nature, Twitter is an ideal tool for conversations, and no conversations are more important to your business than customer complaints. Twitter can help you know instantly when a complaint is being broadcast about your company, and gives you an immediate opportunity to address what's being said.
